1930s

Copper discovered in the Copperbelt region of Zambia.

1930s

Konkola mine commences production.

1970s

The Government of Zambia nationalizes mines.

1991

Government commences privatisation of parastatal mining companies.

2000

The privatization programme of the largest mining assets completed and KCM asset purchased by Anglo American.

2002

Anglo American withdraws as shareholders of KCM, leaving a restructured company with government entities, ZCCM-IH and ZCI as shareholders.

2004

Vedanta Reources becomes the major shareholder in KCM with a 51% share in the company following an international bidding process.A large capital investment programme is commenced.

Vedanta Reources,as new KCM omers,commence supportfor the Expanded Rollback malaria programme, covering over 40,000 households per year.

2005

A new sulphur burning acid plant is commissioned.

2006

The flagship Konkola Deep Mine Project (KDMP) commences with sinking of a new shaft (Shaft 4) in the Chililabombwe South ore body. The KDMP is the first shaft-sinking project in Zambia since the country's independence from Great Britain in 1964.

2007

KCM launthes its workplace HIV/AIDS policy providing service for employees, their families and local communifies.

2008

A new state-of-the-artsmelter is commissioned at Nchanga.

Phase 1 of 2 of a new 6mtpa coocentrata commissioned at Konkola.

Experienced a 3 day national power outage resulting in a major flooding of the Konkola mine and the loss of 90% of dewatered reserves.

A new state-of-the-art flash smelter comntsioned in Nchanga.

2009

Production capacity expanded by 50% to 300,000 tonnes per annum at the Nkana refinery.

KCM is the largest contributor to the NationalTreasury.

2010

Phase 2 of the new 6mtpa concentrator commissioned at Konkola.

Commissioned mid shaft boding at the new KDMP Shaft 4 allowing for hoisfing of copper ore from the mid-point of the new shaft.

KCM is the second largest contributor to the NafionalTreasury in the EITI reports.

2011

KCM is the second largest contributor to the NafionalTreasury in the EITI reports.

2012

Two new concentrators at Nchanga commissioned with a total capacity of 9.5 million tonnes per annum (tpa).

Expansion completed of the tailings leath plant and processing capacity increased from 42,000 to 50,000 tonnes per day.

Commissioned a 24MW diesel generator set for emergency power supplies to Konkola mine.

The highly Sustainable Livelihoods Programme launched.

2013

Commissioned bottom shaft boding at the flagship KDMP, accessing the deep, fier-1 Konkola resource.
