In a significant gesture of support towards the safety and security of residents in Chingola, Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) last week handed over auto spare parts worth K98, 350 to the Zambia Police Service. KCM will also give the service 500 litres of fuel every month for the next three months to aid with patrols to combat crime in the district.

The donation is part of KCM’s broader strategy to contribute to the well-being of communities in Chingola, and also highlights the ongoing commitment of the company towards enhancing the capacity of the local police in their vital role of safeguarding the peace and maintaining law and order in the district that has seen a rise in criminal activities in the recent past.

KCM Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Malcolm Mewett emphasized the value of the partnership between KCM and the Zambia Police, noting that such collaborations are crucial to the safety of the residents of Chingola.

“The Zambia Police Service plays a critical role in maintaining peace and security, and KCM is honored to contribute to the logistical needs of the service. By ensuring their vehicles are well-maintained, we are helping them carry out their important duties with greater efficiency and safety,” Mr. Mewett said.

And Assistant Commissioner of Police, Jennipher Mwiimbu who received on behalf of Zambia Police expressed deep gratitude for the timely donation.

Ms. Mwiimbu acknowledged the many challenges faced by the police in Chingola, especially in terms of vehicle maintenance adding that the spare parts provided will go a long way with regards to improving the police service’s operational capabilities.

“This gesture from KCM will significantly improve the logistics of the Zambia Police Service in Chingola. It will enhance our ability to patrol the area effectively and ensure the safety of the residents. We are thankful for this continued partnership.

We can assure the public that we remain committed, vigilant and proactive in ensuring the security of everyone, ” she said.
