January 23, 2025

Konkola Copper Mines (KCM), in partnership with the Chingola Round Table No.7, has donated an oxygen concentrator and ultrasound equipment worth K250,000 to Nchanga North Hospital in a bid to improve healthcare services in Chingola district.

The state-of-the-art equipment is expected to enhance the hospital’s diagnostic capabilities and provide critical respiratory support, contributing to better healthcare delivery for the community.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, Chingola District Commissioner, Raphael Chimupi expressed gratitude for the donation, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the equipment for long-term benefit.

“We are donating to the community, and we must take care of the equipment. We cannot manage to serve the people effectively without the support of stakeholders, and this donation by KCM and Chingola Round Table Number Seven gives much hope that the hospital will gradually be equipped with modern equipment to efficiently attend to patients,” Mr. Chimupi said.

He said apart from Chingola district, Nchanga North Hospital serves other districts on the Copperbelt, including Kalulushi, Chililabombwe, Chambishi, adding that the equipment will not only reduce on time to attend to patients, but will ultimately save a lot of lives in these districts.

KCM Chief Operating Officer, Malcolm Mewett said KCM is delighted to work together with community-based organisations to undertake such Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives that impact positively to the communities.

“This donation ensures that Nchanga North Hospital is equipped with modern tools to improve healthcare outcomes. Additionally, we are committed to ensuring that healthcare personnel are adequately trained to use this equipment. Ultimately, it’s about saving lives,” Mr. Mewett said.

Representatives from both KCM and the Chingola Round Table reaffirmed their shared dedication to community welfare, highlighting the vital role of partnerships in addressing healthcare challenges.

The donated equipment to the hospital will benefit over 316,000 people from various districts. This initiative underscores the value of collaboration between corporate organizations and community stakeholders in strengthening healthcare infrastructure and enhancing the quality of life for local residents.
