October 20, 2026: Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) Plc is showcasing progress on its flagship Konkola Deep Mining Project (KDMP) at the Zambia Mining and Investment Insaka (ZAMII) 2026 in Lusaka, with the project taking centre stage in the company’s investment and production growth story.
The progress of the KDMP was also explained to the President of the Republic of Zambia, Mr Hakainde Hichilema, during his visit to the KCM exhibition stand on Monday, where one of the KCM’s delegates, Ms. Sibongile Kanyungu, Hydrogeologist No. 4 Shaft, Konkola Mine, outlined the project’s development and its role in expanding mining operations at Konkola Mine in Chililabombwe.
Ms Kanyungu explained that the KDMP seeks to unlock six million tonnes of ore production annually, translating to KCM’s 300,000 tonnes of copper metal target by 2030. The project is a key part of KCM’s strategy to expand its mining capacity and support Zambia’s ambition of producing three million tonnes of copper annually by 2030.
She further explained that approx. US$300 million out of the US$ 1 Billion have already been committed to the project since Vedanta’s return, with mine development works, and mining activities already in progress for the installation of a pump chamber at the 1,390-metre level.
This investment will support the continued development of the KDMP as KCM works to unlock deeper copper resources and strengthen its long-term production capacity.
At ZAMII 2026, KCM is also showcasing its wider mining and metallurgical operations, investment opportunities, production growth plans and contribution to Zambia’s economic and social development. The exhibition provides an opportunity for investors, industry stakeholders and members of the public to engage with the company and learn more about its operations and future plans.
KCM is exhibiting at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre in Lusaka from 19 to 23 October 2026.
