Konkola Copper Mines Employs 53 Management Trainees

Konkola Copper Mines has employed fifty-three (53) management trainees selected from various provinces of Zambia and have been deployed across the business. The trainees fondly called the Gradurocks, have university degrees in disciplines that include mining, processing, engineering and enabler functions, reflective of the mine’s workplace culture and values of diversity, equity and inclusion.

Speaking during the Gradurocks Welcoming Reception held at Protea Hotel in Chingola today, Chief Operating Officer Malcolm Mewett said KCM is committed to mentoring, training and developing young people as they hold a lot of potential for shaping the future of the company and the nation.

Mr Mewett said, “KCM has a bright and long future ahead with over 50 years. The growth
and development of young professionals like you play a pivotal role in shaping its future
because you bring fresh ideas, innovations, talent, curiosity, resilience, adaptability and the drive to execute the business plans successfully. We are a great company and offer
abundant opportunities for career and personal growth.”

Several other speakers who included the Chief Financial Officer Mr Manish Saxena, Director
Processing Mr Rajendra Agarwal and Charles Kasinsa Zulu a former graduate trainee now
working as Head Programme Office, were on hand to inspire and encourage the trainees as
they embark on their new journey in the corporate world.

Mr Saxena prodded the Gradurocks to be passionate in the execution of the jobs while Mr
Agrawal told them to embrace the Vedanta DNA of hard work and courage. Mr Zulu who
shared his career journey encouraged the trainees not to only focus on being promoted but
to aim at being the best at what they do and the rest will follow.

In a vote of thanks management trainee Benjamin Ilema commended KCM for according
them an opportunity to join the mining giant and pledged to be committed, disciplined,
innovative, productive and work hard as well as contribute positively to the business.
Mr Ilema expressed gratitude saying there were a lot of graduates out there still seeking job
opportunities. “We are so lucky to have been employed” he added.
