Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) has been ‘crowned’ as 2nd Adopted Prince of the Shakumbila
Royal Establishment – an esteemed title that represents trust, friendship, and lasting
partnership.

The installation was done by His Royal Highness Snr Chief Shakumbila of the Sala people in Shibuyunji District during the 2025 Ikubi Lya Loongo Traditional Ceremony which took
place on Sunday last week in recognition of the massive support and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts the company has undertaken in the area.

KCM has positively impacted local livelihoods through employment, infrastructure development, educational support, and various community upliftment programs. Recently
KCM installed commercial solar boreholes with over 60,000 litre capacity of water, the first of its kind in Shibuyunji district and is poised undertake road rehabilitation works, among
other things.

KCM was also among the sponsors of ceremony, a celebration of the rich heritage, history,
and leadership of the Sala people. This year’s event was especially significant, as it brought
together representatives from 13 other chiefdoms across the country, fostering a strong
spirit of national unity and cultural preservation.

The Company’s delegation was led by Chairman Mr. Moses Banda, accompanied by Chief Operating Officer Mr. Malcolm Mewett, along with other senior management and staff. Their participation emphasized KCM’s ongoing commitment to community development, cultural respect, and long-standing collaboration with traditional leadership.

The delegation paid a courtesy call on Chief Shakumbila at his palace where His Royal
Highness expressed his gratitude and appreciation for KCM’s efforts in his chiefdom:

“I am very pleased with what KCM is doing in my chiefdom,” said Chief
Shakumbila. “The support to the people of Nampundwe and the respect shown
to traditional leadership means a lot. On behalf of my people, I am truly
thankful.”

The honour strengthens KCM’s relationship with the people of Shakumbila and renews its
commitment to working hand in hand with traditional leadership to promote sustainable
growth and development in the region.
