KCM Senior Management


Mr. Steven Din,

Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director, Konkola Copper Mines plc

Steven Din was appointed as Chief Executive Officer of Konkola Copper Mines plc, Zambia in May 2014. He has over 20 years of extensive experience in the natural resources industry including copper, iron ore, titanium and oil and gas.
He moved to Zambia after spending two years in Zimbabwe with the Essar Group as Chief Executive Officer – Minerals. Mr Din has headed operations at Rio Tinto in various capacities, including managing the Simandou operations in Guinea and as Chief Financial Officer for the Iron & Titanium business and for the Palabora Mining Company in South Africa. Prior to this he was associated with Alumina Company of Guinea and Schlumberger. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from Bradford University and is a Chartered management accountant (UK).


Mark Munroe,

Chief Operating Officer (COO)

Mark Munroe was appointed as Chief Operating Officer (COO) on 20 December 2016. Mr Munroe was previously at Vedanta, Zinc International, where he was COO for operations in South Africa, Namibia, Ireland and Australia.
Mr Munroe made a significant contribution to the mining transformation and extension of life of the Zinc International business.
He has vast experience gained in turning operations around to achieve Sustainable, Best-In-Class while working for Lonmin, DRDGOLD and Anglo-American. Mr Munroe has 30 years’ experience in the business of mining covering the entire value chain and has achieved numerous industry awards and recognition.Mr Munroe is a registered Mining Engineer, holding a ND, NHD and a B. Tech degree in Mining Engineering from University of Johannesburg, he also holds a B. Comm degree in Economics and Business Economic. He has completed a PMD from University of Pretoria, management development program with University of Stellenbosch, and the young high potential managers program with Anglo and INSEAD. Mr Munroe is a member of The Association of Mine Managers of Southern Africa (AMMSA), a Fellow of the Southern African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (SAIMM), on the Advisory Board for the University of Johannesburg, School of Mines and serves on the Mine Health & Safety Council of South Africa advising the minister on Safety and Health matters.


Mr. Sharad Kumar Gargiya,

Chief Financial Officer

Sharad Kumar Gargiya was appointed Chief Financial Officer in February 2015. Mr Gargiya, who has wide experience in finance and accounting previously had a stint with KCM as Chief Financial Officer (April 2009 – Oct 2012). He returned to the company in the same capacity after
serving as CFO at Sesa Sterlite (Sterlite Copper), from July 2013 until his new appointment. He has previously held the position of Dy CFO at Bharat Aluminium Company Limited between November 2012 and July 2013. He has wide knowledge in Accounting Software – SAP, systems applications, financial and management accounting/reporting, financial modelling, financial and strategic planning (budgeting and forecasting), cash flow and working capital management, treasury, secretarial and legal, insurance and commercial participation and negotiation, auditing, compliance, taxation, project finance control, business performance analysis. Mr Gargiya holds a Bachelor of Commerce from University of Ajmer and is a Chartered Accountant from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (1998). He has attended General management programmes at Harvard Business School in the USA and IIM Lucknow .


Mr. Enock Mponda,

Head of the Smelter & Refinery Business Unit

Mr. Mponda is Business Unit Head of Smelter & Refinery. He has over 24 years’ experience working in metallurgical plants (21 years in Zambia and 3 years abroad). Mr Mponda has trained in operations and technical fields at Caletones Smelter (El Teniente) in Chile,
Anglo Platinum Smelter in South Africa, Outotec Head Office in Helsinki, Finland, KGHM smelter in Poland, Olympic Dam Smelter in southern Australia, and RHI Research and Development centre at TC Leoben, Austria. He is a seasoned author of several technical papers on pyro metallurgy, which have been presented at various international conferences. He has held several senior positions in the mining industry including that of Smelter and Acid plants Manager at Nkana, Manager Production Planning at Sterlite Industries in India, Limited Tuticorin smelter in southern India, Smelter Manager at Nchanga, Tailings Leach Plants Manager, and that of General Manager for Nchanga Processing Plants. He is a Member of the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ) and a registered engineer with the Engineering Registration Board of Zambia (ERB). Mr Mponda has previously served as Chairman of EIZ Northern Region, and is a past Member of the Engineering Council. Mr. Mponda holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree with Honours in Mineral Engineering from the University of Leeds, UK. He also has undertaken company-sponsored training programmes abroad, including Management training at INSEAD in Fontainebleau, France, and Total Quality management (TQM) at the Union of Japanese Scientists and Engineers (JUSE) in Tokyo.


Mrs. Chimango Chikwanda,

Vice President Human Capital Management

Mrs. Chikwanda is the Vice President Human Capital Management. She has over 20 years strategic and operational Human Resources experience in the financial sector, FMCG, Telecoms and Mining Sectors.
Mrs. Chikwanda holds a BSc in Economics from the University of London, an MSc in Economics from the University of Warwick, a MS degree in Consultancy and Coaching for Change from HEC (Paris) in partnership with Oxford University and is a certified MBTI and Belbin practitioner.


Mr. David Ng`andu,

Vice President Nchanga Business Unit

David Ng’andu was appointed Vice President Nchanga Business Unit on 1st May 2017. Prior to his appointment, Mr. Ng’andu served as Vice President Technical.
He has also held positions of Executive Director and General Manager of the Nchanga Business Unit between January 2010 and April 2017. He also served as Acting Chief Executive Officer from February 2014 to May 2014. Mr. Ng’andu has held various senior management positions in the mining sector in Zambia, including General Manager of Nkana-Smelting & Refining-IBU, Manager of Metallurgy – Nchanga IBU, Manager Metallurgy – KCM Plc, Plant Manager KCM Metallurgical Trouble-Shooting, Manager (CEO) Ndola Lime Company, General Manager (CEO) Scaw Limited, Concentrator Superintendent (Manager) Konkola Concentrator and Assistant Superintendent Luanshya Concentrator. He has worked in the mining sector since 1984, attaining his formative experience at Mufulira Mine, where he steadily rose from Graduate Metallurgical-Process Engineer to Assistant Concentrator Superintendent. He graduated from Leeds University in the UK in 1984, with BSc (Hons) in Mineral Engineering.


Mr. Anil Tripathi,

General Manager Sustainability

Mr Anil Tripathi was appointed as General Manager Sustainability on 1stJuly 2016 to assume responsibility for all Safety, Health and Environment matters at KCM. Prior to this appointment, he was Head Operations Nkana Refinery in Kitwe.
Mr Tripathi has a highly accomplished and progressive professional career with 15 years experience in business operations, focusing on top-line profitability, sustainability as well as optimal utilization of the resources. His major career highlight has been the achievement in devising solutions and managing metal operations, supporting a high standard of HSE culture in the Organisation with focus on statutory compliances at all levels. Mr Tripathi has a clear understanding of industry, technology trends with characteristic of driving quality control techniques to achieve product excellence at low cost. He also has strength in establishing, implementing and maintenance of Total Productive Management (TPM) for productivity improvement as well as for manufacturing quality. Throughout his career, Mr Tripathi has been instrumental in managing activities related to quality, environmental management, occupational health and safety (OHSAS) systems as ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, reviewing internal and external audits and ensuring continued systems compliance. He holds a post-graduation degree in Industrial Metallurgical Engineering from Bengal Engineering College and Bachelors in Metallurgical Engineering from the College of Engineering in Pune.


Mr Kelvin Chembe Mwamba,

Head Exploration

Kelvin Chembe Mwamba was appointed Head Exploration on 6th June 2017. He has previously worked at Vedanta Zinc International (ZI) since 2015 as Senior Exploration Analyst and Data Manager looking after South Africa, Namibia, Ireland and Australia.
He is a seasoned multi-commodity exploration expert of over 18 years in diverse geological environments across Africa, Europe and Australia, specialising in Copper and other base metal mineralisation; PGMs; Uranium; and Kimberlite hosted diamonds. Mr Mwamba started off at Nchanga in 1998 as a student production geologist at LOB East and NOP. Mr Mwamba briefly worked for the Geological Survey in Lusaka before moving into exploration in 2000 with Equinox Minerals at Lumwana. He has also worked in South Africa for several years for the MSA Group, Norilsk Nickel Africa, and most recently Rio Tinto in various technical and management positions. Mr Mwamba is a geology graduate of the University of Zambia and holds an MSc in geology from the University of Johannesburg. He has also undertaken post graduate studies with the Rio Tinto College in Mineral Economics (Imperial College, UK), Project Management (George Washington University, USA) and Leadership Programmes. He is a member of the Society of Economic Geologists (SEG) and Geological Society of South Africa (GSSA) and is also a Natural Science Practioner. Mr Mwamba has won scholastic awards from international institutions and professional recognition at various firms.
