Mr. Deb Bandyopadhyay,

Non-Executive Director

Mr. Bandyopadhyay was appointed to the KCM Board in November 2004. He brings over 50 years’ experience in engineering and management in governmental organisations, parastatal bodies and the private sector in which he has served
at the level of Chief Executive Officer, President and Director. Mr. Bandyopadhyay is an engineer from the Premier Institute in India, a member of the Indian Institutes of Technology, a group of seven elite autonomous engineering and technology-oriented institutes of higher education established by the Government of India after independence in 1947. Mr. Bandyopadhyay holds a Bachelor of Technology (Honours), Metallurgy degree from the Institute of Technology, Khargpur.


Mr. Steven Din,

Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director, Konkola Copper Mines plc

Steven Din was appointed as Chief Executive Officer of Konkola Copper Mines plc, Zambia in May 2014. He has over 20 years of extensive experience in the natural resources industry including copper, iron ore, titanium and oil and gas.
He moved to Zambia after spending two years in Zimbabwe with the Essar Group as Chief Executive Officer – Minerals. Mr Din has headed operations at Rio Tinto in various capacities, including managing the Simandou operations in Guinea and as Chief Financial Officer for the Iron & Titanium business and for the Palabora Mining Company in South Africa. Prior to this he was associated with Alumina Company of Guinea and Schlumberger. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from Bradford University and is a Chartered management accountant (UK).


Arun Kumar,

Mr. Kumar, Group CFO of Vedanta Resources Plc, was appointed as Director of KCM on 21 Apr 2017. Mr. Kumar joined the Group in 2013 as Chief Financial Officer of Vedanta’s Aluminum & Power business.
He has over 22 years of senior executive experience in finance having worked in companies such as General Electric and Hindustan Unilever Limited. Prior to joining the Group, Mr Kumar was the Chief Financial Officer—Asia Pacific (Appliances and Lighting) for General Electric, based out of Shanghai. He has a Bachelor of Commerce from Loyola University, Chennai and is a fellow member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India.


Mr. William Kabwe,

Non-Executive Director

Mr William Kabwe was appointed to the KCM Board in January 2014. Mr Kabwe has been with the Ministry of Finance and National Planning since 1992 and is currently Acting Chief Economist. He is also Chief Economist in the Department of Investment and Debt
Management. Formerly he held positions involving mobilizing external resources, and compliance with internal procedures and financial systems. He holds a BA in Demography and Economics from the University of Zambia and a Graduate Diploma in Business Administration from the Copperbelt University.

Sharad Kumar Gargiya

Mr. Sharad Kumar Gargiya,

Chief Financial Officer & Executive Director

Sharad Kumar Gargiya was appointed Chief Financial Officer in February 2015 and as a director on 25 April 2016. Mr Gargiya, who has wide experience in finance and accounting previously had a stint with KCM as Chief Financial Officer (April 2009 – Oct 2012).
He returned to the company in the same capacity after serving as CFO at Sesa Sterlite (Sterlite Copper), from July 2013 he took up the new appointment at KCM. He has previously held the position of Dy CFO at Bharat Aluminium Company Limited between November 2012 and July 2013. He has wide knowledge in Accounting Software – SAP, systems applications, financial and management accounting/reporting, financial modelling, financial and strategic planning (budgeting and forecasting), cash flow and working capital management, treasury, secretarial and legal, insurance and commercial participation and negotiation, auditing, compliance, taxation, project finance control, business performance analysis. Mr Gargiya holds a Bachelor of Commerce from University of Ajmer and is a Chartered Accountant from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (1998). He has attended General management programmes at Harvard Business School in the USA and IIM Lucknow .


Mr. Hastings Mtine,

Non-Executive Director

Mr. Hastings Mtine was appointed to the KCM Board in October 2012 on behalf of ZCCM-IH. He is a holder of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants (ACCA) professional qualification from London’s Emile Woolfe College
of Accountancy and an LLB Degree from the University of Zambia. Mr. Mtine, a Fellow of Zambia Institute of Certified Accountants (FZICA) and FCCA is a Chartered Accountant with vast years’ experience in the profession serving the private, parastatal and public sectors. He has held several senior positions including Senior Partner of KPMG Zambia for 16 years until his retirement in 2011. He is currently Managing Partner at MPH Chartered Accountants, a local firm. Mr. Mtine’s experience in the mining sector included spearheading the audit of the entire ZCCM conglomerate prior to the privatisation of the mines. His board experience includes a five-year tenure on the Bank of Zambia Board, during which time he headed the audit committee and later became its vice chairman. He is considered a leading advisor within his profession.


Mr. Mwila Lumbwe,

Non Executive Director

Mr. Mwila Lumbwe was appointed on the KCM board on 24th July 2015. He is the Director for Investment & Management Solutions Limited (IMSL), a business and management consulting firm. Mr. Lumbwe was the Managing Partner of Ernst & Young Zambia,
which he helped to establish and served for 12 years until June 2009. Prior to this Mr. Lumbwe was a Partner at KPMG Zambia and UK. He is a chartered accountant with broad experience in financial management, audit, management consultancy, corporate negotiations, financial control and systems development, banking, privatization, forensic accounting, human resource development, management and due diligence studies. Mr. Lumbwe is an investment advisor/consultant for several clients seeking to investment in Zambia and the SADC region. His financial expertise has been applied in several firms, including the Zambia National Commercial Bank, Zambia Revenue Authority and the Zambia National Building Society. Mr. Lumbwe was one of the three team leaders on the ZCCM/GRZ privatisation negotiating team that presided over the privatisation of Zambia’s mining industry. His directorships have included the Zambia National Commercial Bank, Professional Insurance Corporation, Monarch Zambia Ltd, Orion Mining Zambia Ltd, Chilanga Cement and Pension Trust Fund. Mr Lumbwe is the chairman for AON Pension Trust Fund and Vice Chairman of Pan African Building Society. He is currently Board Chairman of the Zambia Revenue Authority and was also Chairman of Ndola Lime. He also served as Zambia’s representative on the Public Sector Committee from 1990 to 1992 for the International Federation of Accountants. Mr. Lumbwe has also served on the council of the Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants (ZICA) and is a Chartered Accountant by profession.
