Mr. Deb Bandyopadhyay,

Non-Executive Director

Mr. Bandyopadhyay was appointed to the KCM Board in November 2004. He brings over 50 years’ experience in engineering and management in governmental organisations, parastatal bodies and the private sector in which he has served
at the level of Chief Executive Officer, President and Director. Mr. Bandyopadhyay is an engineer from the Premier Institute in India, a member of the Indian Institutes of Technology, a group of seven elite autonomous engineering and technology-oriented institutes of higher education established by the Government of India after independence in 1947. Mr. Bandyopadhyay holds a Bachelor of Technology (Honours), Metallurgy degree from the Institute of Technology, Khargpur.


Mr. Steven Din,

Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director, Konkola Copper Mines plc

Steven Din was appointed as Chief Executive Officer of Konkola Copper Mines plc, Zambia in May 2014. He has over 20 years of extensive experience in the natural resources industry including copper, iron ore, titanium and oil and gas.
He moved to Zambia after spending two years in Zimbabwe with the Essar Group as Chief Executive Officer – Minerals. Mr Din has headed operations at Rio Tinto in various capacities, including managing the Simandou operations in Guinea and as Chief Financial Officer for the Iron & Titanium business and for the Palabora Mining Company in South Africa. Prior to this he was associated with Alumina Company of Guinea and Schlumberger. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from Bradford University and is a Chartered management accountant (UK).


Arun Kumar,

Mr. Kumar, Group CFO of Vedanta Resources Plc, was appointed as Director of KCM on 21 Apr 2017. Mr. Kumar joined the Group in 2013 as Chief Financial Officer of Vedanta’s Aluminum & Power business.
He has over 22 years of senior executive experience in finance having worked in companies such as General Electric and Hindustan Unilever Limited. Prior to joining the Group, Mr Kumar was the Chief Financial Officer—Asia Pacific (Appliances and Lighting) for General Electric, based out of Shanghai. He has a Bachelor of Commerce from Loyola University, Chennai and is a fellow member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India.

Sharad Kumar Gargiya

Mr. Sharad Kumar Gargiya,

Chief Financial Officer & Executive Director

Sharad Kumar Gargiya was appointed Chief Financial Officer in February 2015 and as a director on 25 April 2016. Mr Gargiya, who has wide experience in finance and accounting previously had a stint with KCM as Chief Financial Officer (April 2009 – Oct 2012).
He returned to the company in the same capacity after serving as CFO at Sesa Sterlite (Sterlite Copper), from July 2013 he took up the new appointment at KCM. He has previously held the position of Dy CFO at Bharat Aluminium Company Limited between November 2012 and July 2013. He has wide knowledge in Accounting Software – SAP, systems applications, financial and management accounting/reporting, financial modelling, financial and strategic planning (budgeting and forecasting), cash flow and working capital management, treasury, secretarial and legal, insurance and commercial participation and negotiation, auditing, compliance, taxation, project finance control, business performance analysis. Mr Gargiya holds a Bachelor of Commerce from University of Ajmer and is a Chartered Accountant from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (1998). He has attended General management programmes at Harvard Business School in the USA and IIM Lucknow .


Mr. Wilphred K. Katoto,

Non-Executive Director

Mr. Wilphred K. Katoto was appointed to the KCM Board on 23 January 2018. Mr. Katoto is the Chief Technical Officer at ZCCM IH. He has over 30 years of experience working in the mining industry in various capacities.
He first joined Roan Consolidated Copper Mines Limited (RCM) at Chibuluma Division and spent 10 years in operations in various mineral processing and hydrometallurgical plants when ZCCM was formed in 1982. Mr. Katoto headed the Metallurgical plant under the Technical Directorate of ZCCM Limited, responsible for monitoring and advising on all metallurgical operations. He served as manager in the office of the Chairman of the ZCCM/GRZ Privatization Team between 1997 and 2000, where he actively participated in the technical issues relating to the privatization process. Mr. Katoto was one of the founding officials responsible for technical matters when ZCCM Investments Holdings Plc was formed in 2000 and represented the company on a number of Boards including Mponai Copper Mines, KCM, Chambishi Metals, Copperbelt Energy Corporation, Mukuba Pension Scheme and Lumwana Mining. Mr. Katoto is a member of the Engineering Institute of Zambia and holds a Bachelors’ degree in Mineral Processing. He has also attended a number of local and overseas management and technical courses over the past 35 years.


Mr. Jacob Mkandawire,


Mr. Jacob Mkandawire was appointed to the KCM Board on 23 January 2018. Mr. Mkandawire is Director of Investment and Debt Management Department (IDM) under the Budget and Economic Affairs division in the Ministry of Finance.
In addition to managing IDM’s team of Economists, Accountants, Statisticians, ICT personnel and the sovereign debt portfolio, he oversees the government investment portfolio as well as the issuance of sovereign (government) guarantees. He is a member of the Ministry of Finance management team, the Ministry of Finance procurement committee and sits on the Government Securities Auction Committee. He is also a member of the Economics Association of Zambia and the Financial Markets Association of Zambia. Prior to the role of Director, Mr. Mkandawire was Advisor on Debt Management to the Ministry of Finance. Before joining the Ministry of Finance, he served as the Executive Assistant to the Governor and Deputy Governor – Operations at the Bank of Zambia, providing technical and administrative support. During his tenure with the central bank, he also had a stint in the Financial Markets department overseeing international foreign reserves management, Capital and financial market studies and later domestic markets Liquidity forecasting. Previously, Mr. Mkandawire served as Programme Manager at the Macroeconomic and Financial Management Institute of Eastern and Southern Africa (MEFMI) in Zimbabwe, in the Debt Management Programme. In the role, he contributed to the institute’s technical assistance and research activities in respect of government debt management operations, debt strategy formulation, debt sustainability analysis, debt market development and institutional development in the MEFMI member countries, in conjunction with the International Monetary Fund and World Bank. Mr. Mkandawire holds a degree in Economics from the University of Zambia and a postgraduate degree in Economics and Finance from the University of Sheffield, UK.


Mr. Manuel Mutale,

Non-Executive Director

Mr. Manuel Mutale, was appointed to the KCM Board on 23 January 2018. He currently is the Executive Director of the Zambia Bureau of Standards (ZABS) and previously served as Managing Director for Mulonga Water and Sewerage Company Limited in Chingola.
Mr. Mutale has extensive experience at Chief Executive Level in parastatal organizations and also in finance and audit management and finalization. His career path of over 22 years commenced with mid-management position as Shift Manager in TAP Building Products (5 years), before he moved to KPMG Chartered Accountants as Audit Senior (5 years). Mr. Mutale then took up the position of Finance Manager at Mulonga Water and Sewerage Company Limited. He was subsequently elevated to the position of Managing Director at the same company and served for 8 years. For a period of four months from June 2016, he served in dual CEO roles as Executive Director of ZABS and as Interim Managing Director of Lusaka Water and Sewerage Company Limited. Mr. Mutale holds and Bachelor of Science degree (Chemistry Major/Biology Minor) from the University of Zambia. He also has a Masters of Business Administration Programme from the Edinburgh Business School in Scotland. Mr. Mutale is a Fellow Member of the Association of Chartered Certified accountants (FCCA) – United Kingdom as well as Fellow Member of the Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants (FZICA). He is also a member of the Institute of Directors of Zambia. He also serves on a number of boards of other companies.
